President’s Message – Technicians of Tomorrow Educational Foundation
Good day! I am Jerry Holcom, the president of the Automotive Service Association of the Midwest. Our association has presented the VISION Hi-Tech Training and Expo for the past 25 years, and an important part of our activity has been awarding scholarships to deserving students involved in a high school or post-secondary automotive career program. Our goal is to help ease the shortage of qualified technicians by providing financial resources to upcoming industry professionals.
We have created the Technicians of Tomorrow Educational Foundation (TTEF) to fund these annual scholarships. TTEF is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, so all donations are tax deductible. Our scholarships have typically been in the amount of $1,000 per student, with the money paid directly to the school to ensure that the recipients use their funding for industry based programs and resources. Our awards committee goes through each application and rates sections independently, then selects a winner from all of the criteria that the donor has specified.
When we opened the bank account to begin the foundation, I had the honor of being the first donor and I personally wrote a check for $1,000 to kick it off. As the program continues to grow there still remains a need for continued giving! To make donations to TTEF for the 2017-2018 academic year please complete the donation form.
During the 2018 VISION on March 1-4, we will be hosting a silent auction featuring product and equipment donations made throughout the months leading up to the event. All donors will be recognized on our ASA Midwest website, www.asa-midwest.org, and industry news releases. Please review the details for giving on the donation form.
I challenge you to match or exceed my donation and become a part of the answer for our automotive technician shortage.
Thank you for allowing me to present this information to you. Your investment in the future will benefit our industry for years to come. If you have any questions related to this program, please don’t hesitate to contact Sheri Hamilton at 816.781.5801, or myself at 816.361.0000.
